Additionally, this afternoon Turner and I went for a little shopping excursion - she was the sweetest she's ever been shopping with me and we had a fabulous time walking the shops at Tigertown.
Along those lines, I'll share a story from my afternoon that will make some of you laugh. It will make some of you mad. And some of you will wonder why in the world I can't keep my mouth shut. :)
I had already gotten quite a kick out of the way that the Alabama vs. South Carolina game had started and repeatedly on our drive to Opelika Turner had to ask me why I was clapping and shouting. (She was watching DVD on headphones and I was tuned in to that game on XM. Thankfully Mark kept me informed via text as the game progressed.) I also got a laugh out of how many people were all decked out in their Alabama clothing today - the multitude of Bama fans we have in Lee County (considering that Auburn is about 10 min away) is always shocking to me anyway. But, today, they were out in full force and dressed in full regalia. Surprisingly, I noticed a ton during the actual televised ballgame which made no sense to me. Perhaps they like the colors or the idea of being a Bama fan more than the football game? I don't know...
Turner and I decided to walk into a store called Alumni Hall, which is a store that sells cute, "different than campus bookstore" merchandise. Though the name doesn't say anything Auburn specific, they only sell Auburn items.
Here's a transcript of the situation as it unfolded.
I will call the unknown party, dressed in a snazzy Alabama t-shirt, "Bama girl".
Bama girl (to her friend): "Let's go in here and see if they have Alabama shirts. I don't know why they wouldn't, this is Opelika. They should sell Alabama shirts here."
Me (in my head): Why would the location of this make a difference? It's a store dedicated to selling Auburn merchandise - no they probably shouldn't/wouldn't sell Alabama clothing.
By this time, I am pulling on the door to enter, and I realize she and her friend are attempting to enter just behind me.
Bama girl: "I bet they do sell Alabama stuff here, if they were smart they would."
Me (this time it wasn't in my head - I could hold my tongue no longer): "No. They don't sell Alabama stuff here."
Bama girl: "What? You are telling me they don't sell Bama stuff here?
Store employee who was stocking a nearby table: "Not a thing."
Bama girl: "Oh. Well that's a shame."
Store employee: "No. Not really."
Me (I did manage to hold my comment until the door started to shut behind her): "That ballgame score right now isn't a shame."
I mean seriously!? Now, I know we ALL have "those fans" who make crazy decisions, ride around with gigantic flags attached to their trucks, who wear the school colors while describing the latest weather emergency to the news crew, etc. But if you are going to be haughty enough to loudly speak "down" about a store in public because they don't carry their opposing team/biggest rivalry's merchandise? Completely absurd!!
And the end result of the game was the biggest treat of all. Made our night at this house - it almost didn't matter what happened in the AU or MSU games - we just thoroughly enjoyed that loss! War Eagle!!
