Football is here again!

A few pictures from the first weekend of football season!
Turner's favorite part of the game is the pre-game show...then she turns her attention to the yummy snacks!  This girl can put away some boiled peanuts but her standard weekly order includes a frozen lemonade!

After snacks and some cheering, she's usually ready to veg out.  This game Tootsie and Pop came to sit with us which was fun, but Turner and I decided to head home shortly after the beginning of the third quarter.


I laughed when I found Turner in my bedroom watching the ending of the game...she had pulled her little recliner out of the corner and across the room to get comfortable for the end of the game.

First week of Kindergarten!

Turner had a great first week of Kindergarten!  Because I have to be at school very early on the first couple of days, Mark has the privilege of taking pictures and dropping her off at school.

Of course I had grand ideas of having a cute Pinterest-worthy chalkboard for her to show off a big K, but my crafty girl wanted to make a purple glittery K.  So - glitter is what we did!  You know my OCD self cringed when I saw the two colors of glitter...but she loved it and that's all that matters.

Turner's teacher is Mrs. Harris and we love her already!  She has been so sweet to send me pictures of Turner during the day and has kept us informed of Turner's transitions during this first week.  We are excited about a wonderful year!

You may remember last year's heartwrenching experience with After-School Care and honestly I had absolutely convinced myself that we would never try that again.  Until Turner told us last spring that she wanted to give it another try.  Who am I to stand in the way of my brave girl giving another effort at something that nearly collapsed her emotionally?  So we are trying again.  There were some touchy moments last week and based on some conversations tonight I am not so certain this week will be easy. Prayers would be appreciated.

With sweet new friends on the playground!

Lee-Scott has a cheerleader camp the first three days of school and Turner really enjoyed this opportunity this year!  We have a sweet friend who gave us this cheerleader uniform so she was perfectly spirited for the parent showcase on Wednesday afternoon.  She's looking forward (after much convincing) to cheering on the field on a Friday night next month.

This picture made me laugh - I was across the room and all I saw was a cheerleader hand Turner their cell phone and ask her to take a picture. I guess we all realize that our children know as much about technology as we do!

Turner told me last Monday night that she got to be on top of a "pyramid" at cheer camp.  I was fortunate to arrive a bit early on Tuesday and got to watch the special stunts in person. The cheerleaders were so attentive and even turned themselves around so I could get a clearer picture.

Sweet friends Mike and Rene took Turner out for a celebratory pre-Kindergarten ice cream treat last week at Bruster's!

And I just had to include this picture I found on my phone that Mrs. Amy sent me on one of Turner's last days at her house.  Aubrey (age 5), Presley (age 4), Turner (age 5), Hudson (age 3), and Laney (age 9).  These are such special friends!

Here's hoping for a great second week of Kindergarten!

Soaking up (literally) the last little bit of summer!

The last week of summer provided some fun swimming opportunities with good friends! At all three events it was raining, but thankfully rain doesn't really matter to 5-6 year olds who want to swim!

The Haines (Orlando) were in town and we met at our neighborhood pool for a late night swim.  Turner and Joshua always enjoy visiting when he's in Auburn, but this was a special treat because we finally got to meet the newest addition to the family - Katie Grace (Hua).  She totally tripped me out with her precious personality and she and Turner hit it off big time!

Last Saturday, we started the morning with a baseball themed birthday party for our friend Cooper.  It was an unusually cool 68 degrees so the kids were quite chilly and shivered a good bit, but it didn't stop them!

Margie Grace has a little brother who is friends with Cooper, but Margie Grace and Turner know each other from Summer Show Offs this past July.  They seem to be kindred spirits of sorts and really enjoyed getting to reconnect at Cooper's party.  Here they are actually performing and singing SSO songs before jumping.

We came home for a couple of hours, but headed back up to the pool just as the rain really got going on our side of town.  We had invited all of Turner's classmates from preschool last year to come over for a "reunion/swimming party".  The rain and cold weather made for a smaller turn-out than expected, but the friends who came really enjoyed themselves!

What a wonderful and fun way to end our summer!

Andalusia in pictures

I've determined that for school administrators, the day teachers return to work is truly the "first day of school".  The jitters, inability to sleep, mountainous to-do lists...as a teacher that was always the night before students returned.  Same emotions, same situations as an administrator just comes a week earlier.  :)

Thankfully my mom is super intuitive (38 years of education experience will do that for you) and offered for Turner to spend that weekend prior to school starting (teachers) in Andalusia.  Of course Turner loved that idea, and I was able to gather my thoughts and accomplish several things to prepare for this busy season of life until school gets off and running.

These are a few of the iPhone pictures I received during those few days.  There's just never any predictability to what Turner will get into while she's with Tootsie and Pop!  She did tell me that she went to Dairy Queen every single night.  :)

Saturday at the lake!

Last Saturday we enjoyed a fun day at the with several families from our Sunday School class! 

Of course Mark won't be outdone by Turner's handstand!

We went around to watch a few people jump off Chimney Rock....for some reason I think that at some point in my college experience I jumped off the smaller rock to the left...but I can't remember.  I don't think I would have jumped off the tallest one??  Either way, that's some wonderful logic I displayed during my summer as a Camp War Eagle Counselor if I recall!

Tori was sweet enough to take Turner on a kayak ride and then Turner decided to take one for a spin on her own! She did a wonderful job!
