All good things must come to an end...

We are fortunate that both Mark and I get almost two weeks for Christmas break every year.  It's the one time a year that we both are off work for an extended period of time and we truly get to recharge.  It's always sad to see it end, but thankfully we both actually enjoy our jobs and the relationships our jobs bring.  So it's not all bad to return to some sense of routine!

Our families left one week ago today and the process of un-decorating our home began.  It took us almost 7 hours on Tuesday but at the end of the day it was done!  We continued to find random things around the house and finally put the LAST piece of Christmas in the attic yesterday!

Each year at this time we also re-familiarize ourselves with an old doctor friend - the rug doctor that is.  Our home sees a tremendous amount of traffic in the fall, and especially in the month of December.  It makes me feel 20 years older than I am to admit that we actually look forward to renting this machine each December and working to clean our floors and home extra well before we start a new year.  It's backbreaking work and the disarray makes me nuts for a day or so, but the pay off is great!

In the last week we've slept late almost every day (and by late I mean 8:30 late - heavenly I tell you!) and sometimes stayed in our pajamas most of the day.  We've holed up at home and played multiple games of Twister, Sorry, and Operation.  We've done crafts, baked cookies, and even got our fill of black-eyed peas and cornbread on New Year's day.  It has been most refreshing to just rest and be still in our home.

Mark and I celebrated our 9th anniversary last Wednesday. We celebrated with a simple family dinner, while looking forward to a small weekend trip we have planned for early February as a more official celebration of what we treasure as a blessed and fantastic marriage.

Turner has enjoyed our neighbor Anderson, especially since the weather allowed for them to play outside even in December.  He got this sweet new Jeep from Santa and treated Turner to a ride this week.
Just like a woman driver, always bossing the man around!

Things will pick up and get busy again soon, but some much needed re-charging has been good for our souls!
