Father's Day 2013

One of the funniest moments of my summer occurred in the card aisle of Target as Turner and I picked out what we hoped were perfect cards for Mark, Grandpa, and Pop.  By the time we were done I was laughing out loud and couldn't help snapping a picture of the three cards she wanted to purchase for her Pop.  You can see the pride on her face!

After selecting the perfect cards, we aimed to work on a couple of projects to make our dads happy on their special day.  After a couple of disasters with this cake during the holidays, I've determined that the new Pam spray for baking is my best friend.  This "Out of this World Cake" cake was both yummy and pretty!  While this has always been a favorite of my sweet husband (a treasured recipe given to me by his Aunt Arlene) it's my dad that has taken to it with quite an addiction.  He will sometimes eat a piece at every meal!

Turner wanted to paint a canvas for Mark and was so happy with the finished product she couldn't resist giving it to him the second it was dry.  (Even if that was a whole week early...)  I helped her with a few features on the people but she painted 95% of this picture completely by herself.  Turner and Daddy flying a kite with a rainbow in the background...that's pretty much a picture of love.  Of course Mark loved this special creation and it currently sits in a prominent place on our mantel.  :)

The whole family was together for Father's Day weekend and this was our last time to spend with Matt and Rebekah before their move to Boston.  (Post on that forthcoming.)   Mark had a meeting after church so he missed out on the picture session (he was not sad about this in case you are curious).
I love this picture because it's a clear picture of reality with my family - we love to laugh.  Earlier in the trip Poor Matt (his new official name) discovered that in packing his clothes Rebekah had packed a shirt that was missing a button.  Of course that was a matter of hilarity over the weekend.

Later in the afternoon, we took a family field trip to the new Lee County Lake to check out what we hope will become a new fishing spot for Mark and Turner.  Good family time spent being lazy on Father's Day.

Happy Father's Day to Mark, Grandpa, and Pop - three of the finest dads on this earth.  We are all blessed because of their examples and how much they love their families.
