Finally....

....it almost feels like Christmas to me. The presents have been purchased, the clothes are being packed, the last decisions have been finalized regarding the house, and tomorrow we'll head to Andalusia to spend Christmas with both the Armstrong and Stone families. (We are blessed that both of our families get along so well, and that Turner can spend her early Christmases with both sets of grandparents at once.)

I can't remember a December that has been as busy as this one, and were it not for the selfless sacrifices of my sweet husband I would have surely lost my mind. I won't go into details, but just know that he has completely redefined the term "super-dad". I have also been struck, in the hustle and bustle of this particular season, at how lost Christ gets in all the "muck" we busy ourselves with during this time of year. Turner is still so young this year, she really doesn't understand Christmas traditions and meaningful aspects of this holiday. However, I want to be intentional about how we plan the festivities of next Christmas (when she will certainly understand more) as well as how we focus our attention and time during December 2009. I'd love to hear some traditions or ways that you encourage your family to keep the proper perspective during the holiday hustle and bustle!

As a musician, one of my favorite parts of the holiday season is the music - I started looking for XM radio's all-Christmas station in mid-November! I will surely have mild withdrawals when radio returns to normal programming! Here are two really interesting musical selections that I have enjoyed this season.

The first is a fabulous rendition of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus - when I get to heaven this is the type choir of which I am going to be a part! :)

This one is a more humorous arrangement of the 12 days of Christmas by a men's a capella group from Indiana University.

Enjoy! Merry Christmas!
"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace." Isaiah 9:6

Thank you for sharing these great songs. I've enjoyed them and have found them encouraging as we look at loading up for Christmas in TN! We're not anti-Santa so we talk about him, but we're more about how would Jesus want you to act during this special time than "Santa is watching." They say that stuff too since they hear it everywhere. I made an advent calendar that allows them to create more of the manger scene each day.... Being a part of a church will make it stick...making the bedtime stories this time of year being different parts of the Christmas story.... The girls also picked out a Angel Tree gift each and delivered it back after picking it out. Had they not been exhausted that might have been meaningful. sigh... :) I fear this is way long. eek!

It was great seeing you today. Turner is so precious. We are also trying to be intentional about having a Christ-centered Christmas in our home. You are indeed blessed to have your family and Mark's come together for holidays. I know from experience just how great your parents are, especially your mom...Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
