The celebration began with a trip to Town Creek Park for our church's Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday morning. There were eggs to hunt, cupcakes to decorate, hula hoops to entertain (and for the record this was all Turner wanted to do), and yummy goodies to enjoy!
And just keeping it real, this is what Turner decided to do when someone else had the hula hoop she wanted. :) Can you tell she's an only child and we aren't really gifted at sharing yet?
The Easter Bunny visited our house while we were at the egg hunt, and Turner was very excited to see all the treats he left behind. A school friend (who happens to be a minister's wife) shared that their family did their Easter bunny surprise on Saturday rather than Sunday, so the treats could be fully enjoyed and not hurriedly rushed to get everyone to church responsibilities on time. It also provided an opportunity to separate the Easter bunny aspect of this holiday and the real emphasis of Jesus' work on the cross. We decided that this is something we wanted to try in our family and I don't think we'll change that!
And later in the day on Saturday, we dyed Easter eggs! The look on Turner's face when that first egg came up out of the blue dye was priceless - I think she had NO idea it was going to change colors! She did finally forgo the use of the little dipper (which has been changed from old-school wire to much less efficient plastic by the way) and just use her hands.
We had a marvelous weekend with family - lots of relaxing, playing outside, and just enjoying one another and beautiful weather. What special gifts.
I'll leave you with an interesting story from my Saturday afternoon...
On Saturday while Turner napped, Mom and I went to the mall for a while. I happened to overhear a thought-provoking conversation between some people in the Belk checkout line. A mother and daughter were checking out and the mom says, "Christ is Risen!" to the cashier. The little girl responds by saying, "Well, not really. Not until tomorrow." At first, I thought it was a cute little response...but after I walked away I couldn't help but be convicted about how often The Church lives as if He's not alive? Could we, The Church, possibly be part of the issue people have with Christianity? Could it be that we don't exude the hope we have in Christ, so they see no need to believe? Just a thought...
