I got out of school on Friday and we set about the task of finishing the Christmas shopping and preparing for the arrival of both the Armstrong and Stone clans on Sunday, December 23rd. We were also glad that Aunt Arlene could join us this year and I so wish the distance between Durham, NC and Auburn permitted us to see her more frequently! The holidays with family provided us with lots of laughter, lots of good food, and great memories with family.
All three on their chosen forms of technology...
Granny and Turner got in Turner's tent in the living room one morning!
We attended a lovely Christmas Eve candlelight service at our church, but for the first time I don't have any pictures to show for it! We came home to our tradition of chicken and dumplings for dinner (thank you Granny for bringing these) and then set about the task of clearing a path for Santa to make his visit.
Santa left Turner a new American Girl doll, Caroline, and a beautiful canopy bed with darling accessories.
Santa also brought a new two-wheeled scooter with light up wheels, which as you'll see below was the first thing Turner found.
If you know a child who likes Veggie Tales, Santa found the cutest personalized Veggie Tales DVD in which the characters say your child's name about 30 times during the course of the video. It was too cute and Turner absolutely loved it! Click here to see the website.
The look on her face the first time they said her name...
A new paper airplane book for Turner and Pop
If you remember this post from our summer trip to Louisiana, once Turner found out that Aunt Arlene was coming for Christmas she really was hoping that she might bring some more hand-knitted Barbie clothes with her for Christmas this year. Aunt Arlene really outdid herself this time and not only had designed several new outfits but has also purchased accessories and shoes specifically to match! She also brought a hand painted and glittered hanging rack (something originally made by Mark's late Uncle John and re-purposed for Barbie use) with hangers and a new accessory box. Thank you Aunt Arlene for such thoughtful and creative gifts!
Uncle Richard sent Turner a Furby this year which is something we weren't familiar with before Christmas Day. The verdict is still out on this toy...it's really neat that you can feed the Furby through an app on your iPhone or iPad. It's not so neat that you can't actually turn the thing off and he talks incessantly until you shut him up in a dark room for several minutes and he decides to go to sleep. Note I said "he decides" and I did meant to imply that this little animal has a personality and mind of his own. It's quite strange. We shall see...
Santa stopped by to visit me as well and I was thrilled to find a new iPhone 5 wrapped in a very inconspicuous package! My old phone had acquired 4 blue dots on the screen so I'm loving being able to see pictures and read complete texts without having to turn the phone 3 different ways. Now that I've explored Siri and various other features I am totally loving my new piece of technology!
Pop sporting his Costa Del Mar sunglasses!
I am excited to explore this new little toy as well - a Cricut!
And Tootsie is just pleased as punch to receive her special Praline Ice Cream Sauce from Plantation Pecan Company in Louisiana.
Anderson and Turner took off quickly riding scooters in the street before the rain arrived.
And the rest of the day was filled with lots of game playing, laying around in our pajamas, and enjoying being with family!
With a mouthful of Sister Shubert's rolls! :) Merry Christmas everyone!!
