I don't know what it was about the last song they performed, but it brought tears to my eyes to hear these sweet little ones singing with accompanying sign language, "Little me, little me, Jesus loves, little me. My hands my feet, my smile so sweet, Jesus loves little me....Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so." In the picture below you can see their enthusiasm as they sign the word "yes".
It broke my heart later that morning to think that as these sweet children were singing about the immeasurable love of our Heavenly Father, there were 18 other children in Connecticut being senselessly murdered and countless others being emotionally scarred for life. I doubt I am alone in the thoughts that plagued my mind, "I have a 5 year old...that could be me...what would I do? I am a school administrator...that could be me...what would I do?" I cannot imagine. Even in the midst of unspeakable tragedy, God is still sovereign and is it still truth that he loves those sweet children. I pray that every single day I focus is on enjoying every moment with those I love and living the days we've been blessed with with joy and thankfulness.
Turner with Mrs. Leonard
On Saturday morning we enjoyed the Auburn Christmas Parade! Turner rode in the parade last year with her dance school but this year wanted to watch and enjoy the various floats, bands, and entries in the parade.
After the parade we went down to the AU Hotel and Conference Center to check out the gingerbread village - Samford Hall shown below. It's always a treat to see what the amazing chefs have designed!
Later that afternoon, our back door neighbor and best buddy Anderson celebrated his birthday at the AU Forest Ecology Preserve. The kids went on a nature hike, roasted Smore's over a campfire, and had a beautiful afternoon to enjoy the beauty of the forest.
Turner seemed tired after the nature hike!
It was a fun filled weekend with family and friends!
