A fun weekend in LA!

Lower Alabama that is. :)

We left Friday afternoon, heading down to Andalusia for the weekend. If you follow this blog, you know that my parents see us fairly frequently (which we are really - and I mean really - thankful for). And Turner and I make occasional trips to Andalusia to see them, but most of the time I try to be back in Auburn for my church duties on Sunday and often Mark is unable to come. It had been quite a while since all three of us had been to Andalusia together, so we made plans to stay through church this morning. Thank you Tootsie and Pop for a wonderful weekend!

It just so happened that there was a charitable organization - Meredith's Miracles - having an event called "cookies with characters" on Saturday afternoon. It was during Turner's nap time, and she's not a huge fan of anything with a mask on...so we weren't sure how she would react to this event. But, we were determined to give it a go! Here are some of the picture highlights of the day!

Tootsie and Pop got Turner some chicken nuggets and fries at McDonald's, which came with this handy nylon bag as a prize. I went to the kitchen to gather her juice cup, etc. and found what Turner had packed as her "snack bag".
When we arrived, Turner headed straight for the inflatables. I wasn't sure how this would go since there have been times when she didn't enjoy them much due to many kids being in there at ocne and throwing her all around. Turner had this inflatable completely to herself for about 30 minutes and she had a BALL!
Tootsie - please come get in here with me!!
A quick pic with Mommy - notice Turner actually saying the word "Cheese" as in "Say Cheese!" Except somehow she has interpreted that she needs to yell, "Cheeseballs!!!" when she gets her picture taken. And then the program started. By program, I mean a mini-introduction for the characters on a stage - complete with that character's theme song music in the background, etc. Of course there were Disney characters....
...and Disney princesses....
...and Sesame Street characters...
...and SpongeBob...
This is pretty much the look Turner had on her face the entire time. Notice how entertained Pop is! Pop - I can't WAIT for you to go with us to Disney World!! In this third picture you'll see that she warmed up a little and allowed Pop to put her down on the bleachers and actually seemed to smile....
...and then the some other characters hit the stage. Last summer at our church preschool, the kids were playing dress up and some little boy put on a Spider Man mask. And my poor child went ballistic. I mean totally. lost. it. And ever since, she's been terrified of anything in a mask.

So, when Spiderman, Batman, and Darth Vader hit the stage...Turner had a complete come apart. Even though I knew Dora and Diego (who Turner is completely obsessed with right now) were the next ones out on stage....that mattered not. Turner looked at Tootsie and said, "I want to go home" and started for the door. So...we left. Before Turner got to see the characters up close. Before we got our obligatory cookies. Oh well...we'll try again next year! :)

And here are a few pictures we took this morning before church.

And finally, here's a picture of what I found Turner doing this afternoon as I was trying to unpack and get life back in order. Turner has figured out that she can transport her art stool all over the house and increase her reaching capabilities. Bear in mind, she has already had two helpings of her snack (pepperonis and string cheese), but I guess I wasn't moving fast enough to get her the third helping!? She had opened the refrigerator herself, and I found her standing on the stool, the cheese drawer pulled out, and she was digging for the cheese. (Thankfully, my sweet husband cleaned my refrigerator shelves last week so I am not totally embarrassed to put them on this blog!)

We had such a fun weekend in Andalusia! We are already looking forward to our next visit in a few weeks to visit the Rattlesnake Rodeo. I am not kidding. Just wanted to raise your curiosity...rest assured that will be a blog post all it's own! :)

Sarah, Turner is just adorable and growing so quickly!!! I'm really glad you commented on your fridge shelves since I had already thought bad thoughts about you when I saw how awesome they looked in the picture!!! Mine sure don't look like that! Now I know it's not that you have too much extra time on your hands, but that you have a sweet husband. ;-) BTW, I love Turner's outfit! It's so nice seeing familiar things here!
