Fun in Mississippi

Notice that I, an AUBURN grad, managed to spell Mississippi correctly.  If you haven't already seen the story of the MSU vs. Alabama tickets for this year click here Not the topic of this post at all...but hilarious.

We left Friday afternoon, headed to Starkville, MS for the first MSU football game of the season.  On the way we stopped in Birmingham to visit with BB and Matt, and then promptly got really hung up in traffic in Birmingham around 4pm.  Those of you who choose to live there - bless you.  I just couldn't do it.  Needless to say, between the traffic and the multiple bathroom stops we had to make between Tuscaloosa and Starkville, we arrived much later than anticipated.

Nevertheless, we enjoyed great visits with MSU friends and even pulled off a fun surprise 40th birthday party for Vivian on Saturday morning.  We visited with more friends at a tailgate just before the game, and then enjoyed all the sights and sounds that accompany college football in the South.  Turner is very sensitive to loud noises, so the cowbells and the flyover were a little much.  But, she was a doll during the game and cheered her little heart out for the Bulldogs.

Early Saturday morning, we had to get out of the house while the surprise party plan was being set in motion. We went to eat breakfast at the cafeteria on campus (Auburn dining can't touch this cafeteria experience...) and snapped a few pics of Turner after she climbed on the bulldog.

When we go to Starkville we get to visit with the Swann family - Philip is 2 months younger than Turner, though his birth weight and height were the same as Turner's were at 2 months old!  He is SOLID.  And such a sweetie!  I fully expect to see him in a MSU football uniform one day.

After a nap, it was time to head to campus for the gametime festivities!  I snapped this pic of Turner (forgive the posture - you can tell she wasn't much into picture taking) just because the MSU outfit and the Auburn stroller made me laugh.  We got so many compliments on Turner's sunglasses and her skirt!

Turner wasn't so sure about getting her face painted, but she was so proud to have these two paw prints on her hands.  Like, cried real tears when we had to finally take them off.  Sunday morning.
MSU has a really fun family area with face painting, inflatables, etc. right outside the stadium.  Turner didn't quite know what to do with this huge doghouse...
...but boy did she know what to do when she got in the stadium!!  This is what happened when we got settled in our seats and she turned around and got her first glance of the team on the field.  The visual doesn't do it justice - she let out the most high pitched squeal you've ever heard!

She did lots of shaking and cheering!

And Turner's mommy wants to do lots of shaking and cheering when the team does this.  Full disclosure: I HATED THIS when I was at Auburn.  I probably said very ugly things about a coach who would promote such...  But, when it's "your team" that's doing it...well...it's just pretty cool.  They didn't do this during the previous coach's tenure, but when Coach Mullen came on the scene last year this old tradition was revived.  Now, if Coach Mullen would just join in (white shirt, far left) I think the stadium might explode!

Please note, I did NOT take this video Saturday. The picture above I did take, the video I did not.  :)  That is not me screaming in the background, although those who know me and/or have attended a ballgame with me know it might not be such a stretch.  Fast forward to around 1:00 for the "show".
Turner got really excited on a touchdown run and threw her hands up and squealed "YAY!!!"  I was so off guard I didn't even have the camera ready...but she and her Daddy were kind enough to show me what you do when we score a touchdown!

We had a blast in Starkville!  Stay tuned for more this week...with MSU vs. AU looming in the near future I have several things to share!
