A day to remember

We have had three fun and productive days around our house this weekend! Mark and I have been able to catch up on some much needed rest (shout out to Turner for sleeping till 8:40 this morning!!) and we have come closer to finishing some lingering projects around the house.

Today has just been wonderfully fun and relaxing - we've not left home all day and have spent our time playing in the yard, taking walks, and hosting our friends Matt and Melissa for an afternoon cookout complete with BBQ chicken, watermelon, and homemade icecream! That's my kind of way to start summer! Turner got her first taste of watermelon (see pictures below for the verdict) and enjoyed spending a day being outside in the dirt and water.

Before I share pictures of my family from today, here is a more important picture:

Memorial Day is a day to pause and remember those who have given their lives so that I may enjoy days like today. Sometimes we get so wound up in ourselves that we forget the great price that was paid for our freedom - and the great price that is STILL being paid for our freedom. Mark and I watched a wonderful HBO movie Friday night called "Taking Chance". It is a relatively short film about an officer in the Marine Corps as he serves as the escort for a fallen Marine on his way home for burial. It was moving, powerful, and worth the time spent watching.

Now for a few pictures from today...

Her first real experience with watermelon....she loves it as much as it appears!

My pretty girl in her red, white, and blue.

My pretty girl with dirt in her mouth. She put it there when she tried to eat it.

Blowing bubbles with Daddy.
This is a new trick that Turner has mastered over the weekend. Several times in the last few days I have caught Turner trying to climb our plastic drawers in the pantry to reach something...obviously she has honed her skills quickly and can now scale the drawers in about 5 seconds. This particular time I tucked her dress up so she wouldn't fall on it as she climbed and she was supervised....most times I fear she is not! She has also learned how to lock herself into a room (namely the pantry) so when you put two and two together, that means you have a toddler locked in the pantry who can climb onto a 2ft. tall plastic box. Good times!!!
See what we are up against??

Here's hoping that you and yours had a restful and fun Memorial Day weekend! I have one more day to work tomorrow and I am free for the summer! YIPPEE!!!
