Walking for a Cure

25 years ago I can remember walking around my neighborhood, going door to door with my parents raising money for the American Cancer Society. No one in my immediate family had at that time, or has ever had cancer - thank you God. But it was something we did as a family each year.

A little over a year ago (May 5, 2008) a good friend of mine was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. She died 63 days later.

So tonight I found myself walking again. I walked for Tanya. I walked for the parents whose blogs make me cry as they grieve the loss of their precious children to cancer. I walked because cancer is truly one of my greatest fears - for me, for Mark, for Turner, for my family. It is a monster. There has to be a cure - we must believe that. So, I walked.

Enjoy a few pictures from the Relay for Life event this evening. Turner was an absolute angel and we had a blast together at what I hope will become a family tradition around our house.

Just hanging out in my tailgate chair!

My buddy Collin was sweet to share his Thomas the Train cards with me!

Shaking my purple RLF shakers!

The first team lap around the track (Turner being pushed by Tanya's mom and my friend Norma--who is "Nomo" to Turner)

Running with a purpose..."Aubie" is what Turner shouted when she saw it! (I am proud - I got in there with her and she wasn't scared and had a good time!)

I think would be an awesome family tradition to begin this year. I love the atmospheres at these types of events. Glad to see you all enjoyed it!
