Louisiana 2014

We left straight from Summer Showoffs and headed to Louisiana for our annual trip to see Granny and Grandpa (and their turtles and fish).  As usual, Turner could hardly wait to get up on Saturday morning to go fishing!  It took her about 10 minutes to catch a catfish!

She also gets great joy out of watching Grandpa clean fish - guts and all.

One evening after dinner I couldn't find Mark and Turner…walked down to the pier and found them fishing and watching the sun set.  Maybe one of my favorite pictures ever.

This trip Turner played a LOT - fishing in the boat, driving the kayak, helping Mr. Mac drive his boat, driving the lawnmower with Daddy and even some intertubing.

There's just no way I can do this story justice through writing…but every time I look at those boat/tube riding pictures I just giggle.  You see, after we got off the boat I went to the house for a few minutes.  I came back out to find Mark SOAKING WET several piers down the lake and Turner screaming "I caught a fish! I caught a fish!" Check out the size of the fish "she caught" below.

Apparently while we were riding the boat, a line had been left hanging over the water.  The weight of the sinker and the bait had pulled the hook down in the water, and just about the time Turner got to the pole this large catfish took the pole right off the pier and into the water.  Turner nearly freaked out and started screaming, Mark sees the pole swimming down the lake and starts to chase it to the next pier.  He realizes that he's going to lose the pole (Easter Bunny present from this year) if he doesn't intervene, and like any awesome Daddy he jumps in the lake in his clothes and shoes to catch the pole.  Then he realizes he's got to bring whatever has the line up to the surface, though he's treading water and has no help. (I'm inside, remember?)  Furthermore, as he's pulling on the line he realizes that something BIG has the hook and his mind definitely goes to the various options that might be on the end of the pole.  This IS Louisiana people.  Nevertheless, hero Daddy that he is he manages to get the fish to the surface and hand it up to Grandpa who has the net (recall, he's still treading water).  Y'all, I would have paid $500 to have been there to witness all this but I just know Mark would have never forgiven me for standing there filming this whole event instead of helping.  So it was probably for the best I missed it, but what a fish story Mark and Turner have to tell!

An iPhone video montage of some funny and memorable moments from our trip!
