Lee County Fair 2009

Last Thursday night we took Turner to the fair, and boy Mark and I didn't know what we were getting ourselves into! First of all, we didn't take enough cash money! We had $34 when we arrived and between admission and tickets that was gone in about 7 minutes. (I didn't even get my annual candied apple!) Luckily we were smart and bought Turner the unlimited ride pass - this girl is a daredevil and LOVES the rides at the fair! We had no idea how she would react this year (last year she could only pretty much do the merry-go-round), but this year she did several rides by herself! Rides that made mommy and daddy cringe in fear - but she LOVED them!

A quick picture with the fall scenery in the exhibit hall.
Running to catch Daddy - "Let's GO!"
Mommy and Turner are both happy to be at the fair!
First stop, merry-go-round.
Next, stop, "big slide" with Daddy. (We did this three times that night...)
Her first "hand stamp".
This is where we started to be surprised at her independence...she wanted to ride these swings. Notice how tightly she's holding on and how she's staring down the moving parts of the ride....
Then it gets moving and starts blowing bubbles.....too much fun for little Turner!
*When I went to get her out of the orange swing, the ride operator suggested I ask her if she wanted to go again....I kind of laughed to myself thinking that probably scared her half to death. When I got her out of the orange swing, she took two steps forward, pointed to the green swing and said, "I want to ride this one."
This is where we were really surprised. We walked past this dragon roller coaster type thing, just knowing she wouldn't want to do it. But she did. Here's my baby in the FRONT seat.
She's not too sure about this thing...

Check out the look on her face mid-ride. And the look on the boy behind her!! This ride jerked a good bit in the turns and almost caused me to have heart failure that she was going to come flying out, or her brains were going to be banging around in her head. There's no telling what I sound like on the video....
As you can see, she made it through and there were no tears! (Upon hearing this story, a friend at church told me his little boy cried on this ride....he's about 2 years older than Turner!)

Flying with the whales
Check out the little girl's arms in the picture above...think the power of imitation isn't strong at this age??
Round two (or three?) on the merry-go-round. Not exactly wanting to get off!
I don't know these people. But this is how I want to be when I am their age. I mean, he had a cane and she had to help him off. But they are exiting the ferris wheel! Totally awesome.
Turner and me on the ferris wheel - she LOVED being at the top!
Flying with Dumbo
Driving her own truck
Checking out the goats...
...up close and personal!
Climbing the rails of the pen
And for the second year in a row, we ended up in the goat handling area with no shoes on. Little Miss Priss doesn't like to get rocks, dirt, etc. in her shoes and will refuse to move on until said object is removed. Sometimes it's just easier to go without...
We had a BLAST at the fair! I am trying to rationalize how we can get down to the Covington County Fair in a couple of weeks... We'll see. I just might get that candied apple yet!

I love these pictures so much - now I'm so sad we didn't brave the fair this year! And I love Turner's fall dress - it just occurred to me that I might need to raid her hand me downs for a fall themed photo op for Nealy Bug.
And what you said today just hit me - that Mark says, "Take off your shoes and stay a while!" Joe says that to me nearly everyday of my life!!! I love it. :):)
(and don't you love what I'm doing at my house instead of doing something about the filth and clutter than haunts me so?) ;)
So good to chat with you today - even if it was mostly work stuff. I realize how little we all get to talk sometimes. Too much working - not enough socializing!
