A clean, fresh start!

I love order. For many years I have been a complete nut over things being in order, organized, stacked neatly, etc. Though, not so much a nut over things being "clean". But, I get tremendous joy when my house is clean AND in order. And that's sort of where we are right this very minute! We are savoring the moment knowing that once life gets moving again next week, it won't likely stay this way! Life happens, people!

Mark and I worked diligently last Sunday to get all the Christmas decorations down and put away - along with that comes the task of cleaning up behind all that mess and dust! Since this coincided with Turner being away at grandparents, the house actually got cleaner than normal as the decorations were put away. Normally, I don't look forward to the decorations coming down as it makes our house look "plain and blah"...but this year, for the first time, I actually thought is made things feel cleaner, simpler, and more crisp. I like that. Additionally, we had planned to rent a carpet cleaner over the break, so pretty much all day yesterday Mark worked to clean every carpet in our house and the carpets in both of our cars. I appreciate him working so hard - especially on a day when all he wanted to do was watch 5 bowl games! Clean floors +clean cars = a very happy wife!

And our house is not all that is clean....our sweet Turner is clean and DRY and has been for two solid days now! We have followed a potty training method that is pretty much a boot camp for three solid days...so much of our cleaning has been done because we've been confined to the house since Wednesday. However, the fruits of these efforts have been amazingly rewarding! Turner has been clean and dry (even during naps!!!) all day yesterday and today. We even ventured out for 1 hour this morning with no accidents! Basically, at this point we are using pull-ups only at night! Mark and I are absolutely thrilled at how well she has responded to potty training and couldn't be prouder of our big girl! I am a little apprehensive about getting out and about in public, where the nearest bathroom might be too far away (like the time we were in the dairy section of Walmart when she needed to go and didn't quite make it...). Any suggestions or recommendations from other moms who've successfully made it through this stage would be most appreciated!

And finally, today is a day for a clean, fresh outlook on the new year. We laughed yesterday about how different New Year's Eve was for us last year - we spent the entire day moving and we rang in the new year by spending our first night in our new home. New Year's Day last year was much of the same - moving, unpacking, and more sore muscles. Definitely not the preferred New Year's Day of football game watching, black eyed pea eating, lazily spending the day with family kind of day. Well, let's just say that we more than made up for that today! Check out our yummy peas/cornbread/ham concoction below (Eunice, my granny, would be disappointed that I didn't drop a dime in for some lucky soul to find)!
And being "confined" to the house with Turner during this potty training time made us pull out all the stops in toys, games, and activities to keep us all occupied! Last night we made a tent (stretched a fleece blanket from chair to ottoman) and Turner really enjoyed crawling underneath. I enjoyed laughing at her static filled hair!

Here's hoping that 2010 will be electrifying!

That is great about the potty training. I feel the same way about the order and clean house. Josh's gift to me this year was to spend a night going through our filing cabinet. That poor man but it made me so happy! I feel so much better after we "purge" the house.
