It was bound to happen...

Turner jumped/fell/flipped out of her bed tonight.

We heard her land on the floor - from the other end of the house. Then we ran. And she screamed and cried and hyperventilated. Good times.

Then the real craziness started.

Of course we are asking her over and over, "Why did you fall? Were you trying to get something? What were you doing?" After about 2 min she's finally calming down a little, and that crazy child had the nerve to look over at the shelf, point at her hand-me-down jewelry bag, get this little sneaky grin and say, "My jewelry! I want my jewelry!" Seriously??? You almost killed yourself for some old, ugly, costume jewelry??? Then when we tried to help her understand that it wasn't time to play, she screamed like a madwoman and begged for any and every toy she could possibly spot in her room.

A few minutes pass, then she tries tactic #2, "Mommy, I want to go to sleep in your bed." And when she heard that answer of "no" she totally freaked out, hyperventilating again. Then tactic #3, "I need to go potty, Mommy."

Finally, we get settled back into the chair in her room and I became worried she was either a) sleepwalking or b) had knocked herself completely crazy. She was jumping from topic to topic, trying to spell her name using the pictures on the walls, telling me I am so pretty, reminding me we saw a Dora backpack at the necklace store in the mall (Claire's), yelling at her Daddy to answer the ringing phone, holding her hands to her ear to "hear better" (and forcing me to the same)...it was complete craziness!

Knowing she understands the meaning of the words "upset" and "scared" I tried to impress upon her how upset and scared she made me by jumping out of the bed. She seemed to understand, and after giving her a book to read till she went to sleep she managed to settle down for the night. At least for now...

We honestly expected this to happen sooner since she's such a climber and so fearless, but that thud of her hitting the floor will stick with me for a while. Guess we'll be looking into the purchase of the conversion piece to convert baby bed to toddler bed sooner than we planned!
