Fresh from our garden!

When we arrived back from the beach Friday, one of the first things Turner and I wanted to do was go and look at the growth that had happened in our garden while we were away.  I was absolutely astounded at what I found!  If you'll click here, you can see what this garden looked like in it's earliest stages.  And here are a few pictures of the fun we had picking our first vegetables of the season!  (One squash and one pepper so far...more will be harvested tomorrow!)

These are the sunflowers that are our best looking crop ever - we have grown these since we've been married!

And these are our tomatoes! They are getting bigger by the day, and I can't wait to get one on a piece of bread with lots of mayo and salt. Can I get an Amen?

Turner, picking our first squash.  It is our biggest ever!

These are snap beans, which we've never grown before.

Turner, picking our first bell pepper.

Then admiring it...

...then eating it.  Dirt and all.

These two plants are melons - watermelon in the foreground and cantaloupe in the background.  No official fruits yet but blooms everywhere.  Last year our watermelons all rotted on the vine so we are hoping for better results this year!

And perhaps my most exciting plant...this is a PUMPKIN vine.  And it's HUGE.  We've tried our hand at these before with no luck...so we did these as sort of an experiment and they won't come to harvest at the proper time.  But, if they work we'll be planting again soon in hopes of some fall/Halloween pumpkins!

I certainly can't take much (ok, any) of the credit for this garden. I put the seeds in the ground, but that's really all I did. Turner put some water in the holes, and that's about all she did. :) Mark has done 95% of the work and I couldn't be prouder of the results!
